Especially the microUSB and Lightning connectors still exist, causing serious electronic waste in the European Union. The European Union, which wants to prevent the money spent on electronic waste and charging cables, has been trying to have a single charging port for all devices for a while. After months of debate, the European Union decided on June 7 that USB-C should become mandatory. But apparently the UK disagrees.
USB Type-C will only be mandatory in Northern Ireland
According to the BBC, the UK Government is not considering making USB Type-C mandatory for now. However, according to the agreements made during the Brexit process, the USB-C rule of the European Union will also be valid in Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom.
EU made its decision: USB-C is now mandatory charging input
Although the UK does not make the USB-C port mandatory, many companies, including Apple, will make their devices with USB-C ports to sell in the European Union. Seeing iPhones or other smartphones with different charging ports by region does not seem like an uncommon future. The iPhone 15, which will be introduced in 2023, is expected to be the first iPhone with a USB-C port, due to the decision of the European Union and the problems experienced in iPhone ideas that do not have a charging port.
