Since the launch of its own streaming service, Paramount Plus, Paramount has been gradually withdrawing its series and movies from competing streaming platforms. One of the longest-running goodbyes is common across Star Trek series and movies that have been on other streaming platforms for almost a decade.
Netflix has a lot of Star Trek series. However, Paramount has withdrawn these series one by one, albeit slowly. This process began with the departure of Star Trek: The Animated Series from Netflix at the end of 2019, and continued with the departure of the original series Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: Voyage in October 2021. Then, in April this year, Netflix subscribers said goodbye to Star Trek: The Next Generation, and now we have a goodbye date for a series, too.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will leave Netflix on July 2, exactly ten years after it debuted on the platform. Deep Space Nine aired for 176 episodes over seven seasons between 1993 and 1999. The series starred Avery Brooks, René Auberjonois, Terry Farrell, Cirroc Lofton, Colm Meaney, Armin Shimerman, Alexander Siddig, and Nana Visitor.
The series chronicled the adventures of the crew aboard the Deep Space Nine, a spaceship stationed near an outpost just next to a stable wormhole in the far reaches of space being discovered.
Set in the 24th century, the crew is under the command of Captain Benjamin Sisko, who is tasked with protecting a planet called Bajor and the station from unwanted visitors. Naturally, however, after discovering the wormhole, which is a shortcut directly to uncharted territory, Sisko and his crew stop their work as they try to overcome any hostile villains that appear.
The departure of Deep Space Nine, one of the best-rated Star Trek series with 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, truly means the end of an era for Netflix, which will soon be without Star Trek for the first time in 10 years.
For now, all shows will remain on Netflix internationally, except Star Trek: The Animated Series. However, that will change relatively soon, with Paramount Plus launching soon in the UK and mainland Europe this summer.
