Many AMD and Nvidia graphics cards are currently selling at or below recommended prices, with AMD offering much more competitive prices, according to a recent report. Of course, this is a good development for customers.
A news report from Tom’s Hardware, which analyzed sales data, says that prices for current-generation RTX 3000 and RX 6000 graphics cards in May dropped an average of 15% compared to what retailers were asking for in April. As noted, just over half of current-generation GPUs currently have recommended or lower prices. In the RDNA 2 options, only the RX 6800 and 6800 XT are sold above the recommended prices, and the leadership in this area seems to be with AMD for now.
Unfortunately, most Nvidia RTX 3000 graphics cards are still above the recommended retail price, and Tom’s Hardware says prices for models from the RTX 3050 to the RTX 3080 10GB have increased by an average of 20%. However, we can say that the progress in the right direction continues as the prices of these cards are still at a lower point compared to the previous month.
Even though Nvidia’s Ampere options still haven’t normalized and returned to the prices they should have been, we can say that it’s good news that prices dropped quite a bit in May. Of course, this price gap is also in many ways an indication of demand, as Nvidia’s GPUs have been selling more than AMD’s lately.
