Apple, which completely changed the wireless headset market with the AirPods brand, introduced the first high-end AirPods model in 2019. AirPods Pro was highly appreciated with its silicone tips and active noise canceling support. Apple will update AirPods Pro later this year. It looks like the new AirPods Pro will look almost identical to the old one.
Will not offer a design change
Known for its sources close to Apple, Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the new generation AirPods Pro will come with a new design. Although Ming-Chi Kuo did not give detailed information about the design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated that Apple is trying to make AirPods Pro more compact and that AirPods Pro can come with a rootless design in this direction. Accordingly, the new generation AirPods Pro was expected to come with a design similar to Galaxy Buds or Pixel Buds. However, Gurman stated that Apple had difficulties in shrinking AirPods Pro and had antenna and microphone problems in more compact prototypes. It seems that Apple has abandoned the idea of the more compact AirPods Pro.
Stating that AirPods Pro will not have a new design last year, MacRumors gives this information again. Concept designer Ian Zelbo shared the concept design of the second generation AirPods Pro, according to MacRumors’ claims. The device looks almost exactly the same as the previous generation.
The new AirPods Pro will come with skin detection technology
It was stated that Apple will use an infrared sensor in the new generation AirPods Pro, but as seen in the designs, Apple has given up on it. The second generation AirPods Pro will use the skin detection sensors used in the third generation AirPods. These sensors, which detect whether the surface is skin or not by measuring the water content of the surface, will offer a more real ear detection experience compared to the previous generation. The first generation AirPods Pro used optical sensors, so the earphones couldn’t tell if the environment they were in was skin or another surface.
New charging box that can make noise
Another innovation of AirPods Pro will be in the charging box. The charging case of AirPods Pro 2 houses a small speaker output. The new generation charging case will be able to make a sound when lost and will offer more comfortable use with the Find My application. Increasing the importance of physical security with AirTag devices, Apple seems to continue in this direction. Ming-Chi Kuo, on the other hand, approved some changes in the design and increased the realism of the visuals.
The new generation AirPods Pro, which will have minor changes in the charging box but will offer a very similar design, will be introduced later this year. AirPods Pro 2 is expected to support Apple’s lossless audio codec.
