This Optical Illusion Enlarges Our Pupils

A new one has been added to the optical illusions that draw people in from the moment they appear. In the optical illusion that emerged today, a stationary black hole appears to be moving and growing larger. But the truth of the matter is not at all what it seems.

Optical illusions, which are frequently encountered in social media and attract people, cause almost everyone to be stuck on that page for a certain period of time. A fixed black hole in an illusion that has emerged today feels like it’s getting bigger and pulling us in.

Optical illusions, which are often fun but can be frustrating when viewed for a long time, continue to appear in many social media applications. We are faced with one of the situations where what we see and the reality are very different.

Black hole is deceiving our brain

Such optical illusions, which we encounter frequently, are usually created by using light, color and geometric shapes. In the optical illusion you have seen above, there is a still image that evokes the feeling of a black hole engulfing us and growing dark.

It was determined that a group of people was shown an illusion and their pupils dilated as soon as they saw the black hole. When the hole was the way we showed you, 86 percent of the participants said they felt the darkness coming towards them or pulling them in. The researchers stated that as a result, the over-focused image caused the pupils of the participants to dilate. When the hole was white or a different color, the pupils of the participants remained normal.

According to researchers, the imaginary movement event that feels like moving forward is probably our mind’s way of preparing us for a change in environment. Our visual system, which perceives the transition from a bright environment to the dark side, causes us to think as if we are visually moving.

The researchers explain that pupil dilation happens because our visual neural network predicts how that information will change in the future, rather than seeing the information presented directly in front of us. So our brain imagines this image expanding outward and reacts accordingly.
