According to Netflix’s own internal metering systems, the first episode of Stranger Things 4 aired, set a new record with 286.79 million hours of viewing in its first weekend. Netflix said in a statement yesterday that it was “the biggest opening weekend ever for an English-language TV show on Netflix.”

It’s true that Stanger Things has been a consistent success story for Netflix. Season 3 had attracted over 40 million households within three days of its 2019 launch. Stranger Things Season 2 reached 15 million viewers in three days.

While the success of Stranger Things 4, Volume 1 is good news for the beleaguered streaming giant, it probably won’t change the way it goes or the changes it’s poised to make later this year. While Netflix hasn’t shared much details about its plans since its latest earnings report, it’s still known to be considering an ad-supported subscription option.
