The Egyptian Civilization, the most curious human community of antiquity, has come to the fore again with hundreds of remains unearthed today. Hundreds of new sarcophagi and bronze figurines have been exhibited at the Saqqara archaeological site, south of Egypt’s capital, Cairo. Statues of some famous figures have also been found in the area, which includes more than a dozen pyramids, animal tombs and structures such as ancient Coptic Christian monasteries.
According to shared information, among the newly discovered 150 bronze figurines was the statuette of Imhotep, who revolutionized architecture in ancient times. In addition to the famous architect, the name behind the Zoser Pyramid, statuettes of gods and goddesses such as Bastet, Anubis, Osiris, Amunmeen, Isis, Nefertum and Hathor were also found.
250 mummies were unearthed
As a result of the studies, 250 new mummies were discovered in the region. B.C. The mummies, which are said to belong to the 5th century, were in wooden sarcophagi. It was revealed that there was a sealed papyrus inside a sarcophagus that had never been touched before. The paper was sent to the Egyptian Museum laboratory to be restored.
While it was announced that the papyrus in question was 9 meters long, its content is estimated to be the ‘Book of the Dead’, a collection of funerary texts consisting of spells used by the Egyptians to guide the dead in the underworld. In the region where 250 sarcophagi and 150 statuettes were found, five Pharaoh tombs were found in March.
