Mercedes recalled hundreds of thousands of cars. A new software bug involving multiple models has the potential to endanger occupants in the vehicle. The German automotive giant called for approximately 235,000 cars.

Mercedes started to recall its vehicles with SIM card errors

A new software error seen in Mercedes models released between 2017 and 2022 caused problems in the SIM card application of the communication module in the vehicles. This could cause the telephone network and emergency call system to go offline.

According to the US Transportation Administration NHTSA’s latest announcement for Mercedes, the software issue currently only covers vehicles in the United States. The company has announced a comprehensive recall for cars, SUVs and pickup trucks manufactured between 2017 and 2022. It was stated that the number of models affected by the emergency call problem reached 235,000.

Segments affected by the software issue included many popular models such as CLA, GLA, GLE, GLS, A and C. In addition, it was stated that approximately 20 thousand minibuses, including Sprinter models, were recalled.

Mercedes is expected to recall a total of 235,000 vehicles. Although there is no explanation about the solution from the company yet, it was stated that it can be fixed with a software update. In the statement shared by NHTSA, the following expressions were used for the faulty Mercedes:

“An error in the SIM card application of the vehicle communication module can cause problems in accessing the telephone network and therefore turn off the emergency call system. The issue should be resolved with a mobile connection or a software update to be installed by a vendor.”

Mercedes has been in trouble lately with major faults. The German automotive giant had previously called nearly 300,000 vehicles due to possible brake problems. At the beginning of the year, he asked for a total of 800,000 vehicles to be delivered for many models around the world.
