Samsung introduced the 200-megapixel ISCOCELL HP1 camera sensor in September last year. However, there is no smartphone with this sensor on the market yet. The South Korean technology giant has prepared a commercial that showcases the capabilities of its new camera that will take mobile photography one step further.

The released video aims to showcase the highest detail that the ISCOCELL HP1 image sensor can provide. In the promotional film, we see that the sensor is not placed on a smartphone, but on a circuit board connected to an external display and professional lens. Samsung engineers take pictures of a cat with this setup they have prepared.

ChamelonCell offers pixel binning technology

One of the 200 megapixel resolution frames is printed in parts using an industrial printer. The resulting 12 pieces of fabric are sewn together to form a large canvas measuring 28 x 22 meters, and the resulting giant poster is hung on the front of a building in the city centre.

The Samsung ISCOCELL HP1 sensor features an entirely new pixel grouping technology called ChamelonCell. In this way, it allows you to shoot in various resolutions, from 12.5 megapixel photos with 2.56 µm pixel range to 50 megapixels (1.28 µm) or 200 megapixels (0.64 µm), depending on your needs.
