Apple’s self-driving car, which turns into a snake story, might not have transparent windows if the Apple Car becomes reality, according to a new patent; instead the tool can be used with virtual screens inside. The tech giant has filed a patent for a virtual reality (VR) vehicle system that pairs ‘virtual views’ with the physical movement of a car in motion.
For example, if the car is going down a hill, the system can project a virtual image of a roller coaster onto the windows.
Also, this patent says that just like in “4DX” cinema experiences, the seats in the car will move to match the visuals. Of course, another meaning of this is that we cannot see the beautiful landscapes that can be outside when we are in the vehicle.
The new patent was granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office and was listed on May 3.
Apple says in the patent, “The VR system can provide virtual views that, with visual cues, match the physical movements a passenger experiences,” he continues: “The VR system can provide immersive VR experiences by replacing the view of the real world with virtual environments. Active vehicle systems and/or vehicle control systems can be integrated with the VR system to provide physical effects with virtual experiences. Virtual environments can be modified to accommodate a passenger upon determination that the passenger is prone or showing symptoms of motion sickness.”
Apple says the car will have the ability to “project or display virtual frames on at least one window of the vehicle” to provide 3D virtual views to passengers.
Of course, for this patent to work, the vehicle must be fully autonomous and drive itself along a pre-programmed route.
Although we are once again sure that Apple’s work on its own vehicle continues with this patent, internet users who are worried about the possibility of car sickness do not seem very excited about this concept.
While concept images of how the vehicle might look are circulating on social media, some users continue to offer their own ideas, even likening the vehicle to a coffin. The concept images above, which are older than the patent, show a black car with a sloping roof and few windows.
