Companies continue to introduce their new technologies at the Computex 2022 event. Nvidia, which was very active at the event, introduced two new liquid-cooled graphics card models after its new CPUs. However, it should be noted that these graphics cards were unfortunately developed by targeting cloud companies rather than personal computers.
Nvidia claims that liquid-cooled GPUs are much more efficient!
With this graphics card, which is a liquid-cooled version of the A100 GPU, it is aimed to increase the efficiency in cloud computing systems. With its new graphics cards, Nvidia can reduce data centers’ reliance on inefficient air and water-based coolers.
NVIDIA claims that a facility equipped with a liquid-cooled A100 graphics card uses approximately 30 percent less power. The company also emphasizes that the graphics card can run the same workload as an air-cooled data center while doing this. The new version of the A100 also saves more space. Thanks to its liquid-block design, a single PCIe slot is sufficient instead of two, unlike its air-cooled sibling.
In the consumer market, EVGA and other companies are known to offer GPUs with built-in liquid blocks. There are also aftermarket units that can be installed on existing graphics cards from EK and similar companies. NVIDIA’s introduction today means that we will see liquid-cooled GPUs in use by large-scale companies from now on.
Meanwhile, the company has already started sending samples of the new A100 to corporate customers. Nvidia also plans to release a liquid-cooled version of its H100 Tensor Core GPU next year.
