Chinese display manufacturer BOE, which ranks third after Samsung and LG in Apple’s supply chain, may lose iPhone 14 orders. It turned out that the company, which aims to produce 40 million OLED screens for 2022, cheated on the panel features.
Production could be shifted to Samsung or LG
According to reports by TheElec, BOE is reaching the required throughput rate for Apple’s standards and struggling to procure adequate display chips due to the ongoing global chip shortage. It silently drops features on iPhone screens. People close to the matter said that the company was caught changing the circuit width of thin-film transistors in OLED panels that it made for the iPhone 13 earlier this year, and the company has not received any confirmation from Apple about this change.
Apple’s smart glasses coming very soon
Afterwards, it is reported that BOE, who sent an official to the company’s headquarters to meet with Apple, did not receive any response for the required OLED panel production on the iPhone 14. However, Apple may knock on Samsung Display or LG’s door for the 30 million OLED panel orders planned to be given to BOE.
