Mostly seen on the African continent, the monkeypox virus has been seen in a worrying number of countries in just a few days. In the statement made by the World Health Organization just the other day, it was stated that the virus was reported in 11 countries, while the number of countries increased to 15 in a short time after that statement.

Israel, Switzerland and Austria joined the countries that announced the first confirmed case of monkeypox recently. Israel and Switzerland, in the statements they shared, reported that the virus was detected in people who recently traveled abroad. Israel shared that they continue to investigate other suspected cases.

The highest number of cases were seen in Spain

While the monkeypox virus continues to show itself in different parts of the world, the country with the highest incidence of the virus stands out as Spain. Spain, which has reported 40 confirmed cases of monkeypox so far, is followed by Portugal with 23 confirmed cases and the United Kingdom with 20 confirmed cases.

While there was concern about the virus in our country, it was stated in the statement made by the Minister of Health that there was no case of monkeypox in our country yet. Minister Fahrettin Koca also said in his post that the virus will not cause a pandemic, and that the symptoms usually resolve spontaneously within 2-3 weeks.
