The giant fireball seen in the sky over the past weeks in England has created an impressive image. The meteor that caused this dazzling image flashed across the sky in the south west of England and was spotted over South Wales, Hertfordshire and West Sussex.

The UK Meteor Network (UKMON), which operates a network of 153 detection cameras that record meteors and fireballs over the UK, said the fireball was captured by its fifteen cameras at 00:39 BST (23:39 GMT).

According to UKMON, some reports say the fireball has a green color, which may indicate the composition of the meteoroid. According to UKMON, this color of the meteorite may indicate that it has a higher magnesium content.

The meteor was also recorded on Fripon (Fireball Recovery and Interplanetary Observation Network) and GFO (Global Fireball Observatory) camera systems.

UK Meteor Network founder Richard Kacerek said in a conversation with MailOnline, “Preliminary analysis from UKMON data points to an altitude of about 30km above ground and a speed of 6.9km/h”.

The search for the meteorite, which is thought to have fallen in Shropshire, continues.

Scientists from the UK Fireball Association (UKFAll) believe fragments of the meteorite fell somewhere south of the market town of Shrewsbury. However, after three weeks of searching and despite some “really promising” reports, no official fragments of the meteorite have yet been found…
