Although virtual reality glasses have been in our lives for many years, they have become much more visible after Facebook changed its name to Meta and enlarged its metaverse steps. The latest data from IDC also revealed Meta’s dominance in the VR headset market.

Latest Situation in VR Headset Market: Meta Leader

Global shipments for VR headsets in the first quarter of 2022 increased by 241.6 percent compared to the first quarter of last year, according to data from IDC.

Meta, on the other hand, makes up 90 percent of the market with the Quest 2 player in the competition here. Right behind Meta is ByteDance’s Pico. Pico, on the other hand, accounts for 4.5 percent of the market.

Jitesh Ubrani from IDC said yesterday:

“The meta continues to pour dollars into metaverse development, but the strategy of promoting low-cost hardware at the expense of profitability is not sustainable in the long run.”

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, recently showed off VR prototypes. Zuckerberg said Meta has developed technology that is realistic enough to make users feel like they’re in the same room as other virtual humans.

Of course, it has to be accepted that VR headsets are both bulky, costly and low resolution at the moment. By contrast, VR headset shipments are expected to reach 13.9 million in 2022, up 26.6 percent.

Here, the eyes are on Apple, another technology giant. Apple is expected to introduce its own VR headset. In this process, it is unclear for now how Meta’s dominant process in the market will continue.
