8K image recording feature can come to the iPhone 17 Pro
Unlike Android phones, iPhones have not yet offered 8K video recording feature. According to a reliable leak source, Apple will go beyond 4K resolution in iPhone 17 Pro models and offer 8K video recording support.

As of now, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus can save 4K videos up to 60 FPS, while the Pro and Pro Max 120 FPS can go up. According to some rumors, Apple was ready to offer 8K video records with the current iPhone 16 series, but the telephoto sensor used in Pro and Pro Max did not use this feature because it caused a bottleneck.

8K video recording with the new telephoto sensor opens up

A sensor of at least 33 MP resolution is required to record at 8K resolution. The iPhone 16 Pro’s telephoto sensor is 12 MP because it cannot record 8K video. Although other cameras provide this requirement, Apple has made such a choice due to the low resolution of the telephoto camera. With the iPhone 17 Pro, the company plans to switch to a 48 MP periscope telephoto camera and finally available to 8K video recording feature.

Although Apple has the leadership in video recording, many models such as Galaxy S25 Ultra and Pixel 9 Pro on the Android front are located in front of Apple in this area. Although some content producers prefer 4K videos instead of 8K, they will be preferred by some users because they have more clipping on the video with 8K records.

In February, Mark Gurman announced that Apple is working to improve video recording capabilities in iPhone 17 Pro, and claimed that content creators aimed to use iPhone instead of independent cameras. Apple continues to add new features to the iPhone’s camera every year. These features include action mode, log video recording, cinematic mode and Dolby video recording. With 8K video recording, iPhones’ camera capabilities will be increased a little more.
