The Emmy Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the television world, will be held this year as well as every year. The ceremony, whose nominees were announced last month, was normally scheduled to take place on September 18.
However, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and broadcaster Fox announced today that the ceremony was postponed. The new date is set for January 15th.
Ceremony postponed due to ongoing strikes by actors and writers
The decision means that the ceremony, which will be held for the 75th time this year, has been postponed for four months. It should be noted that the new date will be one week after another major award ceremony, the Golden Globe Awards.
It must be said that the decision to postpone is not surprising. For the past few months, Hollywood has been awash with strikes by writers and actors. The strikes, which were made due to reasons such as poor working conditions and concerns about artificial intelligence, also caused the production of many productions to stop. Also, union rules prevented players from attending ceremonies during the strike.
Because of this, rumors that the ceremony would be postponed had been circulating for a while. With the decision announced today, the expected came true. Although the Academy did not share the reason behind the postponement in its statement, it would not be wrong to say that it was because of the strikes.
