Even Mercedes-Benz, which is equivalent to reliability and quality even by German standards, has some faults that show that it is a company run by people, where people work. One of these mistakes caused the recall of 60,000 luxury SUVs.
A large number of vehicles produced between 2020-2022 have been recalled due to an error in the 7-seat models of GLS Class SUVs. The problem of the recalled models is actually quite serious and the driver of the vehicle cannot be informed.
7-seat models recalled
According to the statement made by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); The locking mechanism on the third row seats of these luxury SUV models is problematic. In these models, which are generally preferred by families, the back row is usually reserved for children. If the locking mechanism is faulty, it causes children sitting on the right and left to be thrown together with the seats in the event of a collision. This poses a great risk to passengers in these seats.
Although new vehicles have many sensors, they do not have a mechanism to report such a problem. NHTSA estimates that 100% of recalled vehicles have the same problem.
Among the models called, there are 2,364 MY2021 GLS63s, 5,212 GLS 580s produced between 2020-2022 and 51,998 GLS 450s produced between 2020-2022. It is stated that these vehicles were produced between 18 September 2018 and 4 July 2022. When we look at the production dates, it is estimated that there is a similar problem in the X166 models. On the other hand, the Maybach GLS, which was produced with the same infrastructure in the same period, does not have this problem, as there is no 7-seat version.
GLS owners will be able to send their vehicles for inspection through the dealers they purchased. The problem caused by the bug in the spring mechanism will be fixed for free.
