Star Wars, which tells the story of events that took place in a galaxy far, far away, became a phenomenon in a very short time and still manages to be popular 50 years after its release. There are also many planets in this universe, which was created by George Lucas.

Scientists and astronomers discover many planets in their work to explore the depths of space. Some of these planets almost look like they were inspired by the Star Wars movies. Of course, there are many other planets that seem very strange to us.

Tatooine/Kepler-16b

Tatooine, the desert planet with two suns that we often see in Star Wars movies, is also known as the planet where Luke and Anakin Skywalker grew up. There is a real planet with two suns, like on Tatooine: Kepler-16b, which NASA discovered during the Kepler mission and orbits a binary star system. On the other hand, this planet is not habitable. It’s a pretty cold planet and there isn’t a Mos Eisley Cantina as such.

Mustafar/CoRoT-7b

Mustafar, where we watched the duel of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, was a very hot mining planet that jumped from hot rocks to hotter lava. CoRoT-7b, located 480 light-years away, has similar features. The planet is constantly experiencing a large number of volcanic eruptions, and there is a constant flow of lava to the planet’s surface. It’s the apprentice woodwork planet that goes right to the high ground and goes to the dark side.

Hoth/OGLE-2006-BLG-390

Hoth, the cold planet with snow and snow, which we saw at the beginning of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, appeared in many games later on. So what would be the best alternative if we actually had to go to a Hoth-like planet? The answer, according to scientists, is the planet OGLE-2006-BLG-390, with an average temperature of -220 degrees Celsius and a frozen surface.

Kamino/GJ 1214b

The famous clone army was being produced on an ocean-covered planet called Kamino. We even saw this planet in Episode III. Obi-Wan had fought Jango Fett in the rain on this planet. When we return to our reality, we see the planet GJ 1214b. It is thought that there is a giant ocean on the planet’s surface due to the high pressure from the thick atmosphere.

Bespin/TrES-4

Hot gas giant Bespin, directed by Lando Calrissian, with a floating city, is also among the most well-known Star Wars planets. The planet, which we saw in the fifth part of the series, later joined the rebels.

In reality, there are gas giants called hot Jupiter. These gas giants, close to their own star, rotating in the opposite direction of their star’s rotation, are very interesting structures. The most prominent among them is TrES-4, the largest ever discovered.

Coruscant/Kepler-452b

Coruscant, which has a similar structure to Earth, is a planet that not only adorns the dreams of sci-fi fans, but also contractors, as it consists of a single giant city covering the entire planet. The people of this planet have also managed to solve problems such as air conditioning.

Kepler-452b, which has very similar features to Earth, is 1.5 billion years older than our planet. If life there developed similarly, they may well have built a Coruscant for themselves.

Bonus: Death Star/Mimas

Probably the most popular line about the Death Star is “It’s not a moon”. Saturn’s moon Mimas looks very similar to the Death Star. The only difference is it’s a month.
