Meta sues spies

Members of Facebook’s security and espionage investigation teams have prepared a comprehensive report on the subject. The report states that the actions taken emerged as a result of months of investigations and observations. He added that they are fighting against 7 different companies that are trying to abuse social media platforms and disrupt their ability to use their digital infrastructure to track people online.

The company’s priority was to ban these 7 companies from the platform and suspend 1500 accounts. He then filed a lawsuit against these companies, which he suspects are using Facebook to distribute malware and to spy on activists, journalists, and minorities.

Surveillance providers based in China, Israel, India and North Macedonia have targeted people in more than 100 countries around the world on behalf of their clients. Company names were shared in the report alongside Cobwebs Technologies, Cognyte, Black Cube, Bluehawk CI, BellTroX and Cytrox as an ‘unknown criminal’ in China.

Meta has warned that an estimated 50,000 victims of spyware are being targeted by attackers, after suspicious companies cut ties with the platform. While the public discussion deals with the abuse aspect, Meta focuses on the rooting of the issue so that it doesn’t get too serious.
