When the Titanic was built in 1912, it was the world’s largest steam passenger ship. On the night of April 15, 1912, it hit an iceberg on its first voyage and sank into the icy waters of the North Atlantic in about two hours and forty minutes. Although this ship, which is the subject of movies, is a legend in its era, with the passage of years, we come across much larger ships. Icon of the Seas represents the pinnacle in this regard.

Icon of the Seas begins its journey at the beginning of 2024

Icon of the Seas, produced by Royal Caribbean International, recently made its first test cruise in Finland. Icon of the Seas went through a four-day test to challenge the ship’s propulsion and maneuvering systems. With a gross tonnage of 250 thousand 800, the ship is 2.5 times the weight of an aircraft carrier. The new iconic ship is 5 times the size of the legendary Titanic.

The new giant will be the world’s largest cruise ship when it enters service in January 2024. The crew number of the ship, which will serve 5 thousand 600 people, is stated as 2 thousand 350. The ship, which will host approximately 8 thousand people in total, is waiting for the day when it will embark on its first voyage.

Icon of the Seas will be the seventh consecutive Royal Caribbean cruise ship to hold the title of the world’s largest cruise ship. Freedom of the Sea, which the company launched in 2006, was also referred to as the largest cruise ship at its time.

The 6 ships that the company introduced afterward also managed to seize the title of the world’s largest cruise ship. Lastly, Icon of the Sea, which will carry this title, will embark on its first commercial journey in Miami in January 2024. Royal Caribbean will build two more sister ships to the Ion of Seas by 2026.

Despite the decline in tourism caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, Royal Caribbean International seems to contribute to the mobilization of tourism with its new cruise ships. So what do you think about The Icon of the Seas? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
