Analyst Ross Young believes that Apple will increase the iPhone 16 Pro screens from 6.1 and 6.7 inches to 6.3 and 6.9 inches. A Weibo leak also confirmed this possibility. Apple blog MacRumors also shared leaked details about the size and weight of the next Pro phones, and these match up with two other reports.
A18 and A18 Pro will offer significant improvements
Apple introduced its first processor based on the 3nm process with the iPhone 15 Pro series. The A17 Pro improves the CPU slightly and includes a revamped GPU. On a slightly more technical note, Apple’s upcoming A18 chip is expected to change the manufacturing process, possibly bringing improvements in power consumption, thermal management, and CPU power.
Jeff Pu says Apple will develop at least two variations of the A18 chip; a base model and a Pro version for Pro phones.
5x optical zoom
Apple added a special lens with 5x optical zoom with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Previously, The Elec reported that Apple plans to add a periscope lens to both Pro models. The publication believes that thanks to the increase in screen size, the company may add tetra prism lenses to both Pro models in 2024.
While this is a big improvement for Pro users, Pro Max owners will not have a new feature because the latest version already has a periscope lens.
48MP resolution to Ultra Wide lens
Analyst Jeff Pu believes that Apple will upgrade the Ultra Wide lens on the iPhone 16 Pro models to have a 48MP resolution. In other words, this means users will be able to capture even more detailed RAW photos.
Generative AI features
Of all these features, the one we’ve heard the most about in recent weeks is generative artificial intelligence. However, we are still not sure how much of it will be included in iOS 18 and how much of it will be exclusive to iPhone 16 models.
According to Jeff Pu, Apple is building several hundred AI servers in 2023 and even more next year. Combining cloud-based artificial intelligence with on-device data processing, Apple will make its generative artificial intelligence available on iPhones and iPads in late 2024.
