When it comes to watching videos on the Internet, the first site that comes to mind for many people is YouTube. In fact, the platform serves not only as a video sharing platform, but also as a search engine with its structure that reaches a wide audience.
On the other hand, believing that it cannot turn this situation into sufficient profit, YouTube follows a very aggressive policy to make its Premium service more attractive. The platform, which started by increasing the number of ads, may now be trying to restrict the resolution options of people who do not use Premium.
No more watching free 4K videos (?)
One of the people who share on technology on Twitter, the user with the pseudonym @sondesix stated that YouTube, which had tested up to 12 advertising features in his post, has removed the 4K resolution option from non-Premium users this time. In the images, the word “Premium” drew attention under the phrase 2160p.
While this topic attracts the attention of reddit users, the /r/youtube/ subreddit also asks “Can’t you watch 4K videos without YouTube Premium anymore?” and “2160p resolution is now Premium feature on YouTube”.
So is this really the case? When we tried the videos included in the images from a YouTube Premium account, from a non-Premium account using AdBlock, and from a computer that is neither Premium nor AdBlocked, we were able to use 2160p image quality comfortably in all three scenarios.
In this case, the alternative that comes to mind is that YouTube tests this feature on a certain user group or a certain region. For now, our access to 2160p resolution seems to be OK. However, this situation may vary from user to user, if you are experiencing such a problem, we welcome your comments.
