The internet, which is a revolution in the field of communication and perhaps even in the historical process of information acquisition, is becoming more practical today in the presence of constantly developing technologies. After the internet was first used on computers, it continues its adventure in devices such as phones, tablets and watches. Instead of computers, which still maintain their status as a necessity, phones are used more because of their practicality and fulfillment of many functions.
Phones, which are the devices where the internet is used the most, have an important place in our lives in terms of supporting communication technologies. As the most important of the communication technologies, we encounter G technologies. When we say 1G, 2G, 3G, the quality and user of mobile communication has increased with the Gs as we approach today. Finally, 4.5G is used, while 5G, which is said to be available in 2023, is eagerly awaited.

According to the “Market Data” report prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK), there are a total of 84 million 646 thousand 943 mobile subscribers in Turkey as of the second quarter of this year, which corresponds to a prevalence rate of approximately 101.2 percent. 3G technology reached 65 million 949 thousand 652 subscribers from July 2009, when it was introduced, until the end of March 2016. With the implementation of 4.5G on April 1, 2016, there was a rapid transition from 3G subscription to 4.5G subscription.
With the introduction of 4.5G technology, which increases mobile communication speed 10 times compared to 3G, in 2016, there has been a great increase in both voice and internet traffic. At the end of June this year, the number of 3G subscribers decreased to 4 million 212 thousand 94, while the number of 4.5G subscribers increased to 78 million 465 thousand 174. In the said period, the number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers exceeded 7 million. Mobile internet usage, which was 224 thousand 945 terabytes in the first three months of 2016, increased by 9.3 times to 2 million 109 thousand 343 terabytes as of the end of June this year.
Total mobile traffic volume in the quarter was 79.3 billion minutes. Looking at the second quarter of this year, it was seen that mobile traffic increased by 8.7 percent compared to the previous quarter, and increased by 9.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. When analyzed on the basis of operators, Turkcell’s traffic increased by 9.1 percent, Vodafone’s traffic by 9 percent and TT Mobil’s traffic by 7.9 percent compared to the previous period.
