Facebook parent company Meta is starting to bring 3D avatars to Facebook Messenger and Instagram. The social media giant has announced that it will offer 3D avatars for Instagram Stories and direct messages. Users through Meta’s platforms; can use their virtual characters on stickers, posts, Facebook profile pictures.
The new 3D avatar feature, which will be available first for the USA, Canada and Mexico, will be available on Meta’s platforms, including the Quest VR platform. Meta’s general manager for avatars and virtual identity, Aigerim Shorman, said in his blog post that the new avatars will include shapes and assistive devices such as hearing aids and wheelchairs to accommodate users with disabilities.

According to Shorman’s description, avatars are; It will bridge VR and AR, create an interconnected digital world between more familiar platforms like phones and computers, and most importantly, make it easier for the company to create the exciting metaverse world.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that when announcing Meta’s new name last year, the metaverse is a top priority for the company. Zuckerberg wrote in his latest post, “(In the coming period) you will have multiple avatars in different ways, from real to virtual.” said.
