US-based technology giant Google has updated the world’s most used internet browser, Chrome. This update seems to be a solution to one of the most well-known problems of Google Chrome, as well as improving the user experience.
Google developers have brought password support to Chrome. This feature, which can be used on Android, macOS and Windows 11, ends the era of entering passwords to log in to websites. Users will be able to use the fingerprints they have defined on their phones instead of passwords. The synchronization between the phone and Google Chrome on the computer will save the user from the password. The user, who reads the fingerprint from his phone, will be able to access his account on the supporting website.
Websites will need to be reconfigured to use the feature!
The new feature developed by Google for Chrome and called “Pass Key” is not a feature available for all websites. In fact, it is: Website owners who wish will be able to activate this feature, but this will require reconfiguring the site settings and integrating the WebAuthn API. Once this is done, the Passkey feature will be available.
It should be noted that the new feature available for Google Chrome will be activated automatically. If a website updates its infrastructure and starts to support the Passkey feature, users will encounter a small menu such as automatic form filling. The user who wants to use the Passkey will confirm in the menu and turn on his phone. The user, who activates the fingerprint or FaceID on the phone, will log into his account without using a password.
There are two more new features that will make Google Chrome efficient!
You know Google Chrome. He’s a total RAM beast and computers with low system specs suffer from this problem of Google Chrome. Aware of this, Google finally came up with a solution and made Chrome more efficient. The new features called Memory Saver and Energy Saver seem to give users a breather.
Let’s say you open a lot of tabs, especially media-heavy. Google Chrome will automatically detect this and activate the Memory Saver feature. Tabs that put a load on the system will also be put into sleep mode. This will prevent Google Chrome from crashing. In fact, the address bar will show how much RAM is saved by the tabs put into sleep mode thanks to this feature.
The Energy Saving feature will be critical for laptop users. Let’s say your computer is unplugged and its charge has dropped to 20 percent. Google Chrome’s Energy Saver feature will kick in immediately, stopping animations and other visual effects on tabs and even videos. Also, background energy consumption will be limited. Thus, your laptop battery will last a little longer.
