24 GB and 48 GB RAM support is problematic on AMD motherboards!  Windows won’t boot
Last month, memory manufacturers started rolling out DDR5 memory modules with capacities of 24GB and 48GB, enabling capacities of 48GB (2x 24GB), 96GB (2x 48GB or 4x 24GB), and even 192GB (4x 48GB). Although their capacities are different from the standards, there is only one problem: While they work on Intel motherboards, they do not work on AMD motherboards.

Incompatibility issue on AMD motherboards

Currently, 24GB and 48GB DDR5 memory only work with 12th Gen Core “Alder Lake” and 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” processors. In fact, both the Ryzen 7000 series and other Intel processors have an official memory limit of 128 GB. It is possible to reach 192 GB with the new 24 GB and 48 GB DDR5 memory. The interesting thing is that just as the maximum memory speed offered by the manufacturers is exceeded, the compatibility problem with 24 GB and 48 GB DDR5 memory can be overcome. MSI and Gigabyte say that new memory is working on their existing Intel 600 series and 700 series motherboards without any need for updates, while ASRock and Asus are preparing software updates for new capacities. But there is no sound for AMD motherboards.

MEGAsizeGPU installed Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5600 48GB modular on AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600X-based ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming motherboard to test 24GB and 48GB DDR5 compatibility. It is reported that when the memories are inserted into the system, the UEFI setup screen is entered before the boot and the memories are visible here. But the problem is that Windows won’t boot and an error pops up pointing to a hardware problem.
AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors technically have a maximum memory capacity of 128GB. Until a few months ago, 13th Gen and 12th Gen Intel Core processors also had this limit, so this may not be an insurmountable limit for AMD. The company may work with motherboard manufacturers on a software update to ensure that the 24GB and 48GB memory modules will work at least below the 128GB limit.
