While the transition of the automotive industry to electric power units continues at full speed, Volvo is taking firm steps to establish itself in this market. One of the steps taken by the company on this path was to announce the EX90, a new electric SUV model.

The electric SUV, which will replace the XC90 model, currently has computer-aided design images. Volvo, on the other hand, focuses on innovations that they will use rather than the design of the vehicle.

The most robust model ever

In a statement made by Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, he announced that the successor to the XC90 will be the EX90. It was also underlined that the vehicle will be the most robust model ever produced by the Swedish manufacturer. In order to see the new model in full, we have to wait until November 9th.

The new 2024 EX90 has an electric power unit, a high-end sensor system consisting of cameras, radars and LiDAR, and highly sophisticated software. Thanks to its driving support systems and features, the vehicle manages to be the safest Volvo model.

The new generation security technologies in this model will find a place for itself in other models of the company in the future. According to the manufacturer’s statement, Volvo, which will offer “one of the most advanced sensor sets on the market” to users, creates this system with eight cameras, five radars, sixteen ultrasonic sensors and a LiDAR.

LiDAR, located on the top of the vehicle, can detect pedestrians at a distance of up to 250m, regardless of light conditions. Thanks to this technology, which will be standardized in future models, Volvo aims to reduce serious accidents by 20% and overall accidents by 9%.

The EX90 will also feature “driver understanding” technology. Thanks to the two cameras in the vehicle and the sensors on the steering wheel, the vehicle will give a warning first and the severity of these warnings will increase in cases where the driver is distracted, drunk or sleepless. If the driver does not comply with these warnings, the vehicle will pull itself to the right and turn on the security lights outside.
