Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), operating in the European Union, announced that 2023 may be the hottest year on record.

C3S shared the temperature data for 2023 in the report published on its website. The report stated that the global average temperature in 2023 was 0.10 degrees higher than 2016, which was previously recorded as the hottest year.

The report stated that this year’s average temperature is 1.43 degrees above the average before the industrial revolution, and it was stated that 2023 could be the hottest year on record so far.

The report stated that this year the average temperature in October around the world broke a record with 15.3 degrees. The report stated that the temperature recorded in October 2023 was 0.85 degrees higher than the average temperature in 1991-2020, and it was 0.40 degrees higher than the average in 2019, when the previous hottest October was experienced.

C3S Deputy Director Samantha Burgess said, “We can almost say with certainty that 2023 will be the hottest year on record. Serious climate action is needed before the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). he said.
