While reducing the environmental impact of its products and services and supply chains, Epson also works in the field of sustainability. According to the report prepared by global technology leader Epson, communities will have to relocate due to water scarcity, increasing natural disasters and agricultural degradation. It is estimated that the number of people forced to migrate due to this climate change will increase to 200 million by 2050.

Beyond Epson’s investment in its own transformation, the report details innovations such as heatless technologies that will help every customer achieve a sustainable future.

The report in question included interesting results on climate change. The effects of climate change, such as water scarcity, increased natural disasters, agricultural degradation and coastline erosion, will displace surrounding human communities. It is estimated that the number of people forced to migrate will increase to 200 million by 2050.

One out of 45 people will migrate

By 2050, one out of every 45 people in the world will have to migrate due to environmental pollution. Of the 47 water-stressed countries, 25 will face a high risk of armed conflict or political instability due to climate change.

Forests decreased by 40 percent

Human activities, including intensive farming processes, put close to one million plant and animal species at risk of extinction. Climate change is also accelerating the depletion of the world’s ‘natural capital’, or ecosystems, fauna and flora, soil, minerals, air, oceans and natural resources that directly or indirectly provide value. Forests cover 31 percent of the global land area. Global forests decreased by an average of 40 percent between 1990 and 2020 due to various environmental impacts.

The energy used in buildings accounts for about 28 percent of global energy-related carbon emissions. In addition, energy use in buildings accounts for about 38 percent of total global final energy consumption in OECD countries.

The use of white goods accounts for a very important share of a building’s carbon footprint. In fact, the electricity consumed by appliances for uses such as cooking, cleaning, lighting, information technology, cold storage and entertainment is estimated at 3,250 TWh, representing roughly 15 percent of global final electricity demand. Choosing energy-efficient office appliances and consuming less energy is becoming an important action for businesses that want to reduce their climate-changing carbon emissions.

Epson will not use underground source

With its sustainability goals, Epson will significantly change the way natural resources are used. The brand, which plans to reduce its emissions by 44 percent by 2025, will not use underground resources from 2050. The company will use previously mined underground resources as existing surface resources. Epson aims to be ‘carbon negative’, defined as limiting all greenhouse gas emissions from its business operations. First, it will minimize the use of energy related to production and products and switch to renewable energy sources. In the future, the tech giant will strive to reduce total resource inputs, eliminate waste disposal and use 100% recycled resources.
