The Chinese spacecraft Yutu-2, which has been examining the ‘dark’ side of the Moon, which cannot be observed from Earth since 2019, made a remarkable discovery. With this discovery, two ball-like glass spheres were detected on the far side of the Moon. Authorities announced that the glass discovered was translucent. Yutu-2 was unable to do any technical research on the structure of the balls. So, is it normal to have glass structures on the Moon that are almost perfectly spherical?
As a matter of fact, glass is not such a surprising material for the Moon. Because high temperature and silicate cause glass formation on the Moon. Given that both of these compounds are abundant on our natural satellite, it’s hardly surprising that glass is naturally found on the Moon. However, the almost smooth structure of the glasses discovered on the Moon suggests that the spheres found were made by humans.

There are many glass balls with similar structures on the Moon’s surface. However, the spheres discovered by Yutu-2 draw attention, especially in terms of their size. So much so that the sizes of similar spheres found on the Moon would generally be 1 mm or less. The sizes of these spheres, however, range from 15 to 25 mm. But this is not the first time. Because 40 mm glass spheres were discovered on the Apollo 16 mission.
Space researchers are pleased with the discovery of Yutu-2. In fact, according to some experts, these large spheres will play a very important role in understanding the history of the Moon. However, in order for these to happen, the globules on the Moon’s surface need to be examined in detail. How this will happen remains a mystery for now…
