1Password has introduced passkey support for its iOS app. The update came just days after the release of iOS 17.

Passkey feature has arrived

With iOS 16, Apple allowed users to create and save passkeys using Safari and iCloud Keychain. With iOS 17, this functionality has been extended to third-party applications. Well-known password management application 1Password was one of the first to introduce passkey support for its iOS application.

1PassWord’s new functionality brings users the ability to use and manage passkeys in apps and browser extensions, share passkey securely, receive passkey alerts via Watchtower, and more. 1PassWord will soon allow users to unlock the password vault just by using the passkey.

What is Passkey?

Passkey is a technology developed by the FIDO Alliance together with Apple, Google, Microsoft and other large companies. Passkeys allow the user to log in without a password by using secure methods such as facial recognition and fingerprint reading instead of traditional passwords. Steve Von, chief product officer at 1Password, describes the passkey as the best form of passwordless authentication that balances security and convenience.
