Finally, while we have heard about the age verification system from Instagram in the past days, important news came from TikTok today.
Today’s most used social media platform has started testing a feature that prevents users 18 and younger from watching certain live broadcasts. The feature, which a limited number of content producers can test yet, will be left to the discretion of the content producers to limit the age of live broadcasts.
Sexual and violent content will of course not be allowed:
The feature will appear in the settings section of the application under the name ‘Adult Topics’. Content producers who activate this button will be able to prevent users aged 18 and under from accessing their live broadcasts. Although the feature may seem like it will pave the way for publications such as nudity and violence at first, this will not be the case.
TikTok states that if the live broadcasts do not comply with the community rules, that is, if they contain nudity, sexual activity and violence, they will be removed from the platform. The feature will mostly be used to prevent minors from accessing adult content (adult comedy shows, etc.). Thus, live broadcasts that do not contain violence or sexuality will turn into 18+ live broadcasts.
