100 thousand possible futures of the world simulated

Climate change is undoubtedly one of the biggest factors that will affect the future of our planet. A new study was carried out to help us learn about possible future scenarios of climate change. In the study, 100 thousand different possible situations were simulated according to different parameters.

The increase in Earth’s temperature is inevitable

University of California researchers simulated different combinations of climate change and countermeasures. Among the models developed are not only technical, environmental and economic factors, but also social and political factors that help or do not make progress in tackling climate change.

Climate change simulations so far have bypassed climate change policies, but researchers say that to prepare for climate impacts, adaptation planners need to understand the possibility of different temperature outcomes for the coming decades.

In the study, in which 100 thousand possible future ways of climate policy and greenhouse gas emissions are modeled, possible outcomes up to 2100 were investigated. The team states that societies’ approaches to global warming are one of the most important factors in whether the effect progresses positively or negatively.

It has been observed that the general temperature of our planet will increase by 3.6 degrees Celsius, given the current state of our world and if the current same functioning continues. However, from the simulated models, it was concluded that even in the most aggressive action scenario, the 1.5 degree Celsius increase targeted in the Paris Climate Agreement of our planet is impossible. The researchers say the most likely goal is to increase by 2 degrees Celsius.

They point out that cost reductions and the ability of political systems to respond will be important factors in future climate change scenarios.
