With powerful graphics cards becoming an increasingly important component for PC gamers, the popular games we’ve seen this year suggest that a high-capacity SSD would be a more sensible purchase. It seems as if 100 GB games have become the standard, and this can be a problem for players with storage problems.

Lastly, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was added to the games that caused the players to download for hours. With a file size of 130GB, it’s the biggest PC game released this year, and it’s a pain not only for those with a slow internet, but also for anyone with limited storage space.

100 GB file size has become the standard

According to Steam data, almost half of PC users have 1TB or more of steep space. This is followed by those with 250 GB-499 GB with 23.18 percent and 750 GB-999 GB with 14.62 percent. In addition to Jedi: Survivor, Forspoken (120GB), Redfall (100GB), The Last of Us Part 1 (100GB) and Atomic Heart (90GB) are among the games that have been released with high file sizes recently. Even more interestingly, according to Steam data, almost half of users have 250GB or less of free storage on their system.

Games have been taking up more disk space for a while now. The 200+GB size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare led people to buy an SDD just for this game before players could remove game mods they didn’t need. Borderlands 3: The Directors Cut reaches 135GB, Red Dead Redemption reaches 120GB, and Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition reaches 110GB. On the other hand, things will not change on the horizon: 110GB will be required for Immortals of Aveum, 90GB for Diablo 4 and 150GB for the final version of Baldur’s Gate 3.

The problems are not over here either. For a large segment already using HDDs, the problem that has actually been going on for several years becomes even more palpable: Load times. The package sizes and skins of the games actually necessitate a fast installation. We see that SSD is now recommended in current games such as Immortals of Aveum, Diablo 4 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Moreover, we do not even mention the fact that tens of GB updates come from the first day to the released games.
