Intel, one of the giants of the semiconductor industry, plans to establish a large production facility in Ohio, USA. As it is known, the USA has recently enacted the CHIPS law, which will provide incentives for semiconductor production. While the new law is expected to provide financing for the project, the groundbreaking ceremony of its facilities was completed recently with the participation of US President Joe Biden and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger.
It will reduce dependency on TSMC and Samsung
The new facility, which will reportedly be built on a 1,000-acre site, will be named Silicon Heartland and will have eight factories in total. Intel states that with the passage of the new law, the project could result in an investment of more than $100 billion. Thus, new manufacturing facilities will increase semiconductor availability for the US market, while reducing dependency on manufacturers such as TSMC and Samsung. Because today, 80 percent of global chip production is carried out in the Asian region.

Under Intel’s initial plans, the new $20 billion fabrication campus will produce semiconductors and other components for automotive technology, computers and mobile devices. The technology giant, which plans to complete the first phase of construction and start production by 2025, will employ more than 3,000 people.
