An important Presidential Decision took place in today’s issue of the Official Gazette. According to the decision numbered 5613, the “entertainment tax” on movie tickets, which was reduced to 0 percent due to COVID-19, will continue to be applied at 0 percent for a while.
According to the Presidential Decree, citizens will not pay entertainment tax for movie tickets until 31 December 2022. This application was first implemented in the past years and has been extended several times. With the decision taken, the 0 percent entertainment tax application was extended for another period.
10 percent entertainment tax was charged from movie tickets
Citizens who bought movie tickets before the COVID-19 pandemic were paying 10 percent entertainment tax. This rate has been reduced to 0 percent due to COVID-19. The tax item, which has been 0 percent for more than a year, will continue to be applied as 0 percent for a while. What will happen after 31 December 2022 is not clear for now.
If the 0 percent tax on movie tickets ends on 31 December, we can say that prices will automatically increase by 10 percent. However, when that day comes, it is not known for now what decision will be made.
